Hit and Run – Characters

These are the characters in the book for further reference:

REGULAR CHARACTERS

• Detective Chief Inspector Janine Lewis (38) is the main character. In the previous novel she was promoted to DCI, but her happiness was broken when that day she discovered her husband in bed with the cleaner. Their marriage broke up as Pete moved in with her lover. Janine has four children and she has a close relationship with her partner, Richard. In this book Pete hints that she wants them to get back together, but Janine says that it is too late.
• DI Richard Mayne is Janine Lewis’s partner. They worked together when they started their careers, and there was a night when they almost slept together, but Janine stopped as she was engaged to Peter at the time. Richard is divorced, and he openly shows his interest for Janine.
• Pete Lewis is Janine’s ex-husband. He is now living with the woman he cheated on Janine with, Tina, the cleaner.
• Tom Lewis (7) is Janine’s son. He is very cheerful and energetic, but he suffers from asthmatic attacks, which sometimes send him to the hospital.
• Michael Lewis (15) is Janine’s eldest son.In the previous book he had some problems at school because he resented his mother for spending too much time at work and because of the divorce. Now Michael has smarted up his act.
• Eleanor Lewis (10) is Janine’s daughter
• Charlotte Lewis is Janine’s baby daughter.
• Detective Superintendent Leonard Hacket is Janine’s boss and there is not a good rapport between him and Janine. Janine calls him the Lemon because that is what she says his face looks like
• Detective Sergeant Shap is one of Janine’s men in her unit.
• Detective Sergeant Ian Butchers is one of Janine’s men in her unit. In this book he oversteps the limits of his job when he leaks information to the father of the little girl who was killed. Janine learns that when he was a teenager, Butchers’s young brother was also run over and killed, and his killer was never found.
• Connie is Janine’s nanny.
• Detective Constable Jenny Chan is another detective in Janine’s team.
• Dr Susan Riley is the pathologist.
• Rachel Grassmere is the scene of crime specialist.
• Dr Balloran is the pathologist
• Tina is the cleaner who Pete cheated on Janine with , and now she and Pete live together.
• Wendy Mayne was Richard’s wife.
• Mr Corkland is Michael’s head of year.

CHARACTERS IN THIS NOVEL

• Marta Potocki is one of the girls who work in the brothel. When the police discover the activities of the brothel, she is deported to Poland, but she intends to try her luck somewhere else.
• Rosa Milicz is the woman who is murdered. Rosa is an exotic dancer. She was pregnant when she was killed, and the reason why she was murdered was because she intended to keep the baby and leave.
• Ann Marie Chinley is the little girl who is killed in a hit and run. Ann Marie was in Tom’s class.
• James Harper/Konrad Sulikov is the killer. He owned and run a pole dancing club and a brothel, and had other clubs in other cities. Harper had an affair with Rosa and got her pregnant, and when she stated her intention to keep the baby and leave, he killed her. James Harper used Konrad Sulikov as his alter ego, the ruthless boss who could be dangerous.
• Chris Chinley is Ann Marie’s father. He was totally shattered when Ann Marie died, and he blames his wife for not holding Ann Marie’s hand when they were crossing the street.
• Debbie Chinley is Ann Marie’s mother. She had many problems having a baby, and after having Ann Marie, she developed a condition which rendered her unable to have children.
• Andrea is one of the dancers in the club, and she tells Janine and Richard what she knows about Rosa. She tells them about the brothel.
• Lee Stone (27) is the bouncer in the club, and Harper/Sulikov asked him to get rid of Rosa’s body. Sulikov told him that she had overdosed. When he was using the car, he ran over the little girl and killed her.
• Jeremy Gleason (24) was Stone’s friend/house mate. Harper/Sulikov kills him.
• Zofia and Petra are two other girls working in the brothel.
