Close To Home 2 (Pages 48 – 91)

SPOILERS!!!

A cracked piece of a headlight found in the scene shows that the car which killed the boy was a Subaru, and the traffic cameras confirm it. The car is found in a backyard, used as a car park, and they discover that its theft has been reported to the police. The owner of the car is in the navy and lives in a town across the river. Kins and Tracy go to talk to him, and after questioning him, they agree that the man is lying. He has a scar in his forehead and claims that he hit his head with a kitchen cabinet.

As for Del, he is determined to find out who provided his niece with the drug which killed her. So far we haven’t known much about Del other than he is divorced, and now we get to know how good he is to his family. His sister is devastated and remains in bed almost the whole day. His twin nephews are neglected, and it is thanks to Del that they have food or go to school. Del tries to talk to his sister, but she blames herself for Allie’s death. Now Del has his niece’s mobile and computer, which he has taken to the police technicians, as he thinks he can find a lead to the drug dealer.

This novel is getting more and more interesting. It seems that the hit-and-run is more complex than the police first thought. And I am also curious how Del’s investigation into the death of his niece is going to pan out.
