The new book I started yesterday takes me back to the Romanov’s Russia.
It alternates between the nineteenth century and 1991. We get to know Sabrina Josephine and Boris Spiridov, who start a romance when they are introduced by the future Tsarina Alexandra. The couple have a daughter, Darya, who I think is the main character in the book and we see again in 1991 when she’s a old woman over 100 years of age.
It seems that as a young girl Darya develops some special healing powers, and when she’s sixteen, the Tsarina Alexandra calls her to help her. Alexandra is ill, suffering a heart condition, and even though Darya doesn’t know anything about her ailment, she goes to see her. Alexandra is not appreciated by her in-laws and the Russian people mainly because she’s failed to give the Tsar a male heir. Darya tells her she’s certain she’s with child and it will be a boy.
I don’t know much about the story of the Romanovs, so I think it’s going to be interesting to learn more about this time in history.
